IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PRESENTERS AT ISAM 2011


Please visit our webpage www.isam2011.org regulary for updated scientific program, changes may occur, and every presenter are responsible for keeping themselves updated on the schedule.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

Please make sure you meet up at the venue for your symposium no later than 20 minutes prior to the notified starting time of the symposium. You need to make yourself familiar with the room and facilities and make yourself known to the chairperson(s) of the symposium. All rooms will be equipped with projectors and PCs with the Microsoft PowerPoint 2007.

Speaker preparation room is equipped with computers and technical support and all speakers are requested to visit the Speaker preparation room to upload the lecture on the server. The files will then be delivered to your session room by our technician. In the Speaker Preparation Room, you can test your presentation; you can make sure that your software versions are compatible with the versions in the session rooms. For plenary speakers we kindly ask you to upload your power point file the day before your lecture. For presenters at parallel symposia at noon sessions; your file must be uploaded at least the day before. For presenters at evening session, please upload your files before 12.00 the same day.  There will be no acceptance of personal Mac computers or PCs to be connected to the audiovisual equipment. 

All rooms will be equipped with a remote controller for slideshows as well as a laser pointer. The conference organizers will not make any of the presentations available to others after the conference. Exchange of copies of presentations need to be arranged directly between the presenter and those individuals requesting copies.

We kindly ask you to structure your talk and it should be of approximately 11-15 minutes duration and allow a minimum of 2 minutes for questions from the audience. Normally somewhere between 10-15 PowerPoint slides for one presentation would be an adequate number for the allocated time. The number of presenters in a symposium varies between 4 and 6, however all symposia are a total of 90 minutes. . (In sessions with 4 presenters; 15 minutes presentation and 4 minutes for question each, in sessions with 5 presenters; 13 minutes presentation and 3 minutes for question each; and in sessions with 6 presenters; 11 minutes presentation and 2 minutes for questions each.)The time is to be shared equally between the presenters (4-6) in the symposium, and there should be time for a minimum of 5-10 minutes of discussion with the audience at the end of the session.                                                         

The chairperson(s) will indicate to all presenters when there are 3 and 1 minutes left of the allocated time. No presenter should feel that they are in title of more time for their presentation than their equal share of the total symposium time.

Conference participants are expected to be both researchers and health personnel in the field of addiction, such as general practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers.

Financial Disclosure:
A detailed list of potential conflicts of interest should be presented on the second slide of your presentation. The list must include grants/research support, employment, consulting and/or speakers’ bureau arrangements, major stock ownership, etc. within the past 3 years of any relevant commercial interests/affiliations. Commercial company logos are NOT to be included in any slides of your  presentation.

 

POSTER PRESENTATIONS


Postersize: Maximum height 135cm, maximum width 95 cm, portrait orientation.
Poster presentations are an excellent way of communicating your research and to get personal contact with your colleagues in the international audience. Make sure you use the opportunity and your allocated time wisely.

The poster room will be available during the entire conference, and hence the posters may be hang up any time, but no later than Thursday 8.9.11 in the morning. No posters should be removed before the poster session on Friday 9th has ended.

There will be pins available for posters in the poster room.

There will be two poster sessions; the first during lunch (1230-1400) Thursday the 8th of September and the second during lunch (1230-1400) Friday the 9th of September. 
Odd-numbers will present poster on Thursday 8th, and even-numbers will present posters Friday 9th.
Poster presentations will take place as an organized “Poster walk”, starting from the lowest numbers of the day, to the highest, and each poste-rpresenter will be given maximum 2 minutes for a brief presentation of the poster/project, followed by up to 2 minutes questions/interaction with the audience.    

We advise you to bring at least 25 copies in format A4 (preferably colours) of the poster as handouts. Make sure your contact details are clearly visible on the poster and your handouts.
 

 
   

Abstract guidelines

Please read these instructions carefully before preparing your abstract.

  • The deadline for abstract submission is 29 May 2011.
  • The organisers reserve the right to accept or refuse any abstract, to designate papers as either oral or poster presentations and to choose a suitable session for the abstract.
  • Notice of acceptance will be e-mailed to the submitting author by 15 June 2011.
  • The submitting and presenting authors must register as a congress delegate and pay the registration fee. Abstracts without paid registration fee will not be accepted for the congress or published in the abstract book.
  • Abstracts which have not been prepared according to these instructions will not be published in the abstract book

Independent abstracts:   
  • The maximum length of an abstract is 250 words (excluding title, authors’ names and affiliations). Abstracts must be written in English and with “sentence case” both for title and body of the abstract.
  • The title must be informative and include no more than 100 characters without spaces. Include all authors’ names and affiliations, city and country, as well as E-mail address for presenting/contact author.
  • The abstract should be written in a structured manner like this and give the 
    OBJECTIVES of the study
    METHODS used 
    RESULTS obtained 
    CONCLUSIONS reached.
     
  • An abstract should include actual results obtained from original, non-published research.
    All financial support from commercial parties must be disclosed in a final statement of the abstracts. 
     
 
Abstracts suggesting symposia (90 minutes):  
  • The maximum length of an abstract is 250 words (excluding title and name & affiliation of submitting author). Abstracts must be written in English and with “sentence case” both for title and body of the abstract.
  • The abstract should be given a short but informative title (100 characters), be written in a structured manner giving a brief introduction to the topic, the objectives of the symposium, list the names of maximum 5 presenters with titles of the individual presentations. The abstract must include a concluding section summarizing the expected learning outcomes for the audience from the whole symposium. 
  • The up to 5 separate presentations suggested for the symposium, have to be submitted as “abstracts to symposium” (see guidelines for independent abstracts). Suggest one or two chairpersons for the symposium. All financial support from commercial parties must be disclosed in a final statement of the abstract. 
 
All addiction related topics are generally of interest and relevant topics both for parallel sessions and abstracts.
